Marrickville

ArtMade was approached by developers to rejuvenate an existing warehouse space and transform it to an entertainment venue for live music.

The site fronting 2 roads and a laneway has an existing development that has been built to the boundary. The street is characterized by buildings comprising of retail at ground level and commercial/ residential on the upper levels. Although the current streetscape consist of 2 storey developments, the street is undergoing rapid development and is transforming into a street fronted by medium rise buildings whilst retaining retail at the ground level.

The existing building facades have a strong affiliation with the arches in form of corbelling, windows or paint. This inspires the proposal to adopt the curves/ arches. A balcony with screened and arched openings has been considered as an appropriate approach for the context.

The back of the house, kitchen and loading dock has been strategically located to be accessed from the laneway allowing the restaurant to open out on the main road. The music venue has been located on the first floor to better control the acoustic impacts to the neighbours

The proposal is currently undergoing construction for the ground floor kitchen as part of CDC application.
